LARGE ANTIQUE BRIGG UMBRELLA WITH SILVER COLLAR AND CAP
In pretty good condition with the exception of one a damaged spoke.
Brigg umbrellas have featured in history several times for various reasons.
For example when the Argentineans invaded the Falkland Islands on the 2nd of April 1981
the small British garrison at Port Stanley and the then governor Sir Rex Hunt were held up
in the Government house. Hopelessly outnumbered the decision was taken to surrender, so
the governor made a make shift flag by tying his white handkerchief to a Brigg umbrella
and waving it at the advancing troops.

ANTIQUE WHANGEE CANE UMBRELLA
This is an unusual umbrella with a Whangee handle It will look different from the any other because all of these unique umbrellas are handcrafted.
Notice the dark color on the underside of the crook. This is due to the burning of the cane
when bending it by hand before attaching it to a Brigg shaft and frame.
The term Whangee comes from the root of the type of bamboo used, which unique appearance
comes from the constant soil erosion on the sharp gradient exposing it to the elements.
This purple umbrella, an unusual color as most are black, can also be used as a walking stick or cane.
It is in very good working order however, it does have a couple of small pinprick holes.
